MATEL, a brand for PMSM motors in industrial applications, is set to foray into the Electric Vehicle market and offer solutions including Motor, Gearbox and Motor Controllers. Pune-based MATEL has been providing solutions for energy-efficient motors and controllers for industrial applications for the last five years.
A company statement said that MATEL is now ready with its manufacturing facility with a capacity of more than 100K units per year, and series production will start soon. The powertrain solution will be unveiled at AutoExpo 2023 – Components. In the first phase, production will start for e2W and e3W OEMs, and products for LCVs are expected to be production ready by the end of 2023.
Netaji C Patro has recently joined MATEL as Co-founder and Board member. He has 26 years of experience in leading Electrical & Electronics R&D teams at Maruti, Bajaj Auto, Suzuki and Ola’s EV initiative.
On the sourcing front, Patro informs that MATEL has developed a supplier ecosystem locally. The company has also partnered with Renesas, one of the top global manufacturers of key electronic components.
Matel has more than 50,000 motors deployed in different applications, the statement added. MATEL already has an R&D team equipped with Simulation Tools and Testing set-up, which enables them in faster product development as well as validation. Patro emphasises safety and reliability aspects are accorded top priority in their complete design and development thought process. MATEL also intends to release BMS and Data Analytics Algorithms in the near future.
