Motor controller supplier C-Electric raises an undisclosed amount at a valuation of USD 4 million • EVreporter

C-Electric, Kochi based customized motor controller supplier for 2W/3W electric powertrains, has raised an undisclosed sum at a valuation of USD 4 million. The investment is led by K Chittilappilly Trust, an initiative by Shri. Kochouseph Chittilappilly, Founder, Chairman and former CEO of Vguard Industries and a chain of amusement parks called Wonderla.

A company statement said that the start-up has electrified more than 10,000 electric three-wheelers and 4,000 electric two-wheelers with indigenous and customized electric powertrain motor controllers. C-Electric began operations in Nov 2018 with a five-member team to offer electric vehicle power trains to OEMs and motor manufacturers. Currently, they are operating in two locations, Kochi and Mysore, with 20 employees. In 2019, the venture raised the first seed capital investment from GAIL, the Indian government owned natural gas explorer and producer.

The company will use the capital raised in this latest round to enter new markets of high-speed scooter and light commercial vehicle variants and enhance the production capacity to 1 Lakh per annum. They also have plans to make a magnet-less motor which will provide overall better efficiency of the powertrain in all operating torque conditions. Sharing their plans, C Electric founders Bavil Varghese and Ratheesh Nair said that the startup aims to offer a unique concept of connected electric powertrain to bring Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence into vehicles and enable communication with the motor controllers for optimized energy consumption and better riding experience.
